  • DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PROGRAMA:

The content of this course is designed to raise awareness of major issues and approaches in English language teaching and learning methodology, including how practice is informed by theory, thereby determining the methods/approaches as well as the materials, syllabi and assessment instruments teachers use and their impact in language classrooms. This will involve reviewing historically established methods/syllabi principles and re-analysing their appropriateness in view of recent knowledge about language teaching and in light of second language acquisition research evidence. The course will also consider radical recent alternatives such as “Dogme” and the “Post methods” hypothesis as a challenge to the notion of a single 'best' or 'right' method. This course therefore explores the bases of these developments, examines the procedures by which underlying concepts have been translated into practice, and analyses some of the emergent professional issues, all the while prompting students to contextualise this knowledge within their own pedagogic realities.
